Community Volunteer Income Tax Program coming to Morris

Valley Regional Library has joined the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) sponsored by Canada Revenue Agency to host a free tax clinic for the Town of Morris. These tax clinics are delivered by community organizations across Canada. The clinic is a place where eligible people can get their tax returns done for free.

After consulting some local tax preparing services, the Valley Regional Library identified a need to help individuals file their income tax returns. An income tax return must be filed to get the GST Credit, any Provincial or Federal refund entitlements, Climate Action Incentive (i.e. “Carbon Tax”) refund and to continue to receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement. A current Income Tax return is also required to maintain your Manitoba Pharmacare Drug Program.

The tax clinic is for persons with modest income. The guidelines suggest the program be available to the following incomes: Single Person $35,000.00; Single parent with one child $45,000 plus $2,500 for each additional dependent; Couples: $45,000.00 plus $2,500 for each additional dependent.

The income tax clinic in Morris will be held the four Wednesdays in April from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m at an office in the Valley Regional Library 141 Main St. South . You must make an appointments to see a volunteer and have them do your tax return during the appointment. If you wish more information or would like to book an appointment call 204-746-2136.
